The GMT-Master part number 1675

In 1959, Rolex launches the GMT-Master reference 1675, which succeeds the 6542. The model GMT Master 1675 nicknamed "Cornino" is extremely rare and difficult to find in perfect original condition.

This is the first GMT Master model to be fitted with shoulders. Its 40 mm case has the particularity of having pointed shoulders, hence its nickname "Cornino". The reference 1675, was produced from 1959 to 1980. There is a multitude of variants and improvements made by Rolex during these years of production.

The timeless GMT-Master

This GMT-Master presented in the video, is in excellent condition, this one was produced for only 3 years, from the end of 1959 to 1963. Its identifiable feature is in the crown of the Rolex logo which is slightly more pointed than the previous models.

We can observe that there is also the inscription certified Chronometer, that the previous models of 1675 did not have. The movement inside the watch is the caliber 1565, a self-winding movement beating at 18000 vibrations per hour. With time, the dial has taken on a tropical patina, i.e. going towards brown, which gives it a lot of charm. This type of dial is highly prized by collectors.

The bracelet is made of steel and has the identifying feature of being elastic, which we tend to find on vintage models. The glass is made of plexiglass. Since its launch in 1955, the GMT-Master model of Rolex has been distinguished by its red and blue rotating bezel with 24-hour graduations, specially developed for the pilots of Pan Am (Pan American World Airways) airplanes.

The 24-hour graduated disc is divided into two halves, one half is red, which corresponds to daylight hours, and the other half is blue, which corresponds to night hours. This was very convenient for pilots.

This model is very rare, especially in such good condition. The watch has a 40 mm diameter steel case, topped by a blue and red "Pepsi" bezel with a 24-hour scale. The crown and case back are screwed. Its black-lacquered dial has round tritium indexes. The hands are Mercedes' hands and also have tritium.

The bezel of this GMT-Master is made of aluminium. We observe that it is beginning to lose some of its colours, a sign of the passing of time. The colour of the dial determines the "life" of the watch. Its Tropical dial, nicknamed "Railway", gives it an unprecedented charm, which also makes it a rarity. Tritium indexes are forbidden nowadays, and few people still have their indexes working properly.
