For mechanical watches, regular maintenance ensures that they remain in good working order and protects their value over time.
Although a watch can run for a long time without being serviced, carrying out regular maintenance preserves its mechanics and reduces the risk of repair.
Watch Certificate™ suggests the following maintenance schedule:
Year 1: A simple interview
This maintenance is carried out by the approved watchmaker and consists for example:
- In an adjustment, with the intervention being carried out at the level of the advance and delay racket
- In a demagnetisation
The cost is generally between 50€ and 250€ according to the complexity of the watch.
Year 2: An intermediate interview
This maintenance is carried out by the approved watchmaker and consists of an intervention on the aesthetic aspect and the basic functioning of the watch:
- Partial dismantling
- Change of oils
- Change of glass
- Change of hand
- Polishing of a case
- Change of gaskets to redo the watertightness
The cost is generally between 100€ and 300€ depending on the complexity of the watch.
Year 3: Simple maintenance, again
This is the same intervention as in year 1.
This maintenance is carried out by the approved watchmaker and consists of :
- Adjustment (...)
- Demagnetisation (...)
Year 4: Full service or "Complete overhaul".
This maintenance is carried out by the approved watchmaker and consists of :
- Complete dismantling of the watch
- Complete cleaning in a special bath
- Reassembly
- Polishing if necessary
- Thorough lubrication
- Adjustment of the balance wheel
- Water-resistance test
Depending on the manufactures and models, it may be carried out every 4 years, or even every 8 years.
The cost is generally between 180€ and 1000+€ depending on the complexity of the watch.
Note: this suggested maintenance schedule can be modified according to the manufacture and model of the watch, and its movement complexity.
