Your certificate, for your timepieces
The Watch Certificate™ is the passport of the watch. It is a document signed by an expert recognized at the European level and forgery-proof. It takes the form of a steel card issued at the time of a watch purchase. This card gives access at any time to a detailed certificate with 42 control points and high definition photos taken in a watchmaking workshop. The whole is signed by an expert who works for auction houses.
The Certificate is a brushed steel card, it weighs 28 grams. It guarantees instant access to the certificate at a protected address. Our choice was to make it out of the same material as the majority of watch cases for a simple reason: it must be durable since, in the event of the sale of your watch, you will give this card to the new owner. In case of loss, the data is saved and we are able to reissue your card. In order to produce this document, the watch is carefully inspected by a watchmaker in our network, and this close to the buyer. The certificate is finally validated and signed by an authorized expert.
Nobody can change the data on your watch because the certificate is registered in a decentralized and indelible database - the blockchain.
What if someone forges the card?
The card can be imitated, but not the digital certificate.
If the metal card were to be copied, the digital certificate would remain forgery-proof, just like a real digital passport.
And it's easy to check: When you scan the code on a Watch Certificate card, the secure URL that is opened starts with watchcertificate.org - and it cannot be altered by a forger.
Buying a watch without a Watch Certificate card
Physical verification is essential.
Buying a second-hand watch is by definition, risky. We recommend never buying a watch without having it physically checked by an expert. Using the Watch Certificate offers you an easy, quick check, which includes an estimate of the market price of the watch, and is tamper-proof.
Buying a watch already equipped with a Watch Certificate card
When the watch is resold, it is checked again.
Even if you know the seller personally, the watch must be rechecked when there is a change of ownership. This operation allows you to check the evolution of the condition of the watch, starting from its first certificate, thanks to the high-definition photos, to certify its market value, and of course, to record the change of ownership. This information is not visible on the certificate for reasons of confidentiality.
This check ensures that no parts have been changed since the previous certificate was issued. The Watch Certificate card will then be updated, and the previous certificate will be kept in its history.
What protects against 'doublets' (real card, fake watch)?
Our technology prevents duplication
The "duplicate" of a serial number is a process used by counterfeiters which consists of inscribing the same valid serial number on several counterfeit watches, and providing the buyer with a certificate of authenticity made with the real watch.
Watch Certificate technology prevents duplicate serial numbers and protects buyers from this scenario. Only one card can be generated for a single serial number.
